Administration Drone-Strikes Credibility

Posted on Home by Amanda Bland · May 24, 2013 1:20 PM

This will make about as much sense as a red herring in your living room, laid back, sipping on gin and juice: This administration is foregoing the capture of suspected terrorists in the Benghazi attacks, because they are principled and stuff.  Simultaneously, our president is projecting his position on trying enemy combatants in civilian courts, while admitting to droning American citizens. Super. Granted, the 'explanation' for that little misshap: American casualties were collateral damage (perhaps even caused by a video...we shouldn't rule that out).

An important issue here is credibility, and the trust of the American people in this presidency is at stake.  Based on a Fox News poll, large numbers of independents, Democrats, and Republicans believe this White House is being deceptive.

Was SGP In The IRS Crosshairs?

Posted on Home by Stacy Mott · May 22, 2013 9:57 PM · 7 reactions

This week, news broke that brought a shock to the Obama administration and the main stream media.  News that the Internal Revenue Service, a government organization, was targeting Conservative organizations in what can only be described as a Nixonian political game. Conservatives, however, are not at all shocked. In fact, many of us have been screaming from the rooftops for almost two years.

Smart Girl Politics Action formed in early 2009 prior to the launch of the tea party movement as a c4 nonprofit.  We were lucky enough to have our initial organization formed within a few months before the IRS began targeting groups like ours. Under the c4, SGPA conducted training classes, online and off, for free for women around the country.  In our first two years, we offered both activist and candidate training classes, all of which were nonpartisan.

Due to our overwhelming early success, the leadership at SGPA decided to separate our training away from the activist and issue education arm and organize under a sister organization, Smart Girl Politics.  SGP, a c3 nonprofit and nonpartisan group, was launched in 2011 with the sole purpose of training more women to get involved in the political process.  At this point, we were already hearing the stories from other "tea party" groups about how long the process was taking.

“THAT Mom” and the Potato Gun That Rocked Her World

Posted on Home by Jaime Kristine · May 22, 2013 9:55 PM · 2 reactions

Please allow me to formally introduce myself as I believe I have failed to do so previously…  My name is Jaime Kristine and I am “that mom". You know, that mom that is easily frazzled and seems to be always running behind...that mom who is constantly losing her keys or her purse and forgetting things...that mom who has to make an extra trip back to the school on nearly a daily basis to take one or both of my children’s school bags or for a school project that we left sitting on the coffee table...that mom that has to make even a third trip to deliver the homework that should have been in the school bag to begin with...that mom having to make a last minute trip to the elite downtown bakery for that fresh-out-of-the-oven-taste and homemade-feel because it’s my turn again to bake the class goodies for my son’s snack time at school, and once again I did not remember...that mom who speaks her mind and often asks questions that others may find silly, while expecting a kind, non-condescending reply...that mom who takes off work to take the kids on a spur of the moment adventure...that mom who may not always seem to have it together but cares beyond measure...that mom who is passionately protective, and will go to any length to see to it that my children are 100% safe, cared for, respected, always included, and given every opportunity possible to get involved in a little four letter word that is potentially the most meaningful word in the human experience - LIFE.

On Thursday morning, April 18, just 3 days after the bombing in Boston, I woke with a heavy heart for my children. I felt sick, and had a sudden sense of fear for my children’s safety and a sharp nudge from within urging me to go back to the school to pick them up.  The feeling likely stemmed from the recent accumulation of disastrous events, along with having experienced the horror of the Oklahoma City bombing (and the anniversary of such only one day away). Or, maybe it was mother’s intuition. Whatever it was, the feeling was so strong that I didn't  hesitate to heed the sense of urgency I was experiencing.

The White House Wished Us All a Happy Mother's Day...Sort Of

Posted on Home by Nicole Haas · May 22, 2013 9:54 PM

Mother’s Day is an occasion when people take the time to be thankful for dear ol’ Mom. After all, she’s changed your diapers, nursed you when you were sick, and been there for you through thick and thin. On that special day, you make sure not to take her for granted, treat her to a champagne brunch, or make the family dinner. You might even offer a sweet little note, card or phone call of appreciation.

Just think if you had access to millions of moms. How would you express your gratitude and respect for a mother’s noble role in our nation? Much in the same way you would your own mother, right? Well… not if you were working at the White House you wouldn’t!

The Party's Over and I Haven't Even Mailed the Invitations

Posted on Home by Shannon E. Grady · May 20, 2013 2:09 PM · 4 reactions

Conservatives in general and Republicans in particular have had little to celebrate in the news for the past five years. So the news of the White House and the Obama Administration coming under attack was somewhat of a welcomed surprise. After two failed Presidential campaigns and a party that looked more like a political version of the movie “The Hang-over”… as everyone stumbled around trying to piece together exactly where it all went wrong and how the tiger got in bathroom in the first place, any bad news for Democrats was good news for the GOP.

If You "Enjoy Every Moment', You're Doing It Wrong

Posted on Home by Kelly Ferguson · May 20, 2013 2:01 PM

As any new mom knows, when you begin to take your baby out in public, well meaning folks – many of them strangers – will approach you, complement or fuss over your baby, and say “they grow so fast – enjoy every moment.” If you ask me, this advice comes from a good place but misses the mark in so many ways. First of all, from a practical perspective, I don’t know many people who “enjoy” getting pooped on, screamed at for an hour straight, or their nipples rubbed raw. This is not the entirety of what it means to parent an infant, but these are very real “moments” in a day in the life of a new mother. We can all love our children deeply and still acknowledge, there are moments in motherhood which are not enjoyable at all.

I’ll take it a step further, though. I think if you “enjoy every moment” of parenting, you’re doing it wrong. Not only is that goal unattainable, I don’t think it’s the right goal for parents to have.

Mother's Day Feature: Rachel Campos-Duffy

Posted on Home by Elizabeth Vale · May 17, 2013 11:17 AM

Rachel Campos-Duffy is what many would consider an unlikely conservative woman.  In her early days in the spotlight she was a cast member on the MTV show The Real World, not the most likely start for a conservative woman, but it was an even more unlikely place to meet her conservative husband, and future United States Congressman, Sean Duffy.

After leaving reality television, Rachel devoted her life to being a mom, but she never completely left the spotlight. She instead decided to use her voice and celebrity to spread her conservative message and fight the culture war through many outlets.

Besides her most important job of being a mom to 6 children, she is also a television host, author, blogger, and speaker.  She has been featured as a guest host on The View, she is the author of Stay Home Stay Happy: 10 Secrets to Loving At-Home Motherhood, and she is a blogger for AOL's ParentDish.com, Anderson Cooper 360, and TheAmericano.com - just to name a few.  In short, Rachel Campos-Duffy embodies all that is great about conservative women today - she is strong, intelligent, and not afraid to make her voice heard while at the same time never losing sight of what really matters.

Mother's Day Feature: Michelle Malkin

Posted on Home by Tami Nantz · May 16, 2013 12:31 AM · 5 reactions

William Ross Wallace once wrote "The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world."

Honestly, I never understood the phrase all that well until I became a mother, and then I realized full well that all that I am, or ever hope to be, began with my heart's first home: my mother.

As passionate conservative women who consider it our calling to fight for liberty, it's sometimes tough to picture those women to whom we look for leadership as anything but that. Michelle Malkin is someone we know very well as a passionate conservative blogger, Fox News Contributor, multi-published author, conservative columnist, and all around on-fire conservative activist. If you've ever had the pleasure of meeting her, you'd also know her to be one of the sweetest women you've ever met. And if you happened upon her website, you might even learn some fun trivia, like her preference for Apple products, her shoe size, and the fact that she's a lefty. But we know very little about Michelle Malkin in her most important role of all -- that of wife and mother.

Michelle was born in Philadelphia, raised in South Jersey, and now lives in the Colorado Springs, CO area with her husband, her 12-year-old daughter, and 9-year-old son. "It's a paradox," answered Michelle, when I asked her how becoming a mother changed her. "Motherhood made me tougher and softer at the same time. Tougher in the sense that the maternal instinct empowered me to do and say things I would not have thought possible before; softer in the sense that it deepened my empathy and compassion in unforeseen ways."

Book Recommendation: Miss Buncle's Book

Posted on Home by Maya Grim · May 15, 2013 9:52 AM · 2 reactions

knight-girl-reading.jpgI don't usually read fiction, but certain occasions prompt me to the literature section of my local book store. Recently I took a vacation with a five and a half hour flight (that would be one of those occasions). It is the generally accepted social custom that you remain seated on the plane and not annoy the other passengers with aisle-style yoga. The movie on these flights usually leaves something to be desired. In this case, it was Life of Pi. Even though Pi ends up adrift because of a shipwreck, I question whether it's sardonic humor or obtuseness that leads to a programming choice where the main character ends up lost at sea, from any cause, on a flight the spends its entire time in the air over the Pacific Ocean.
