I am tired & weary from this prolonged fight to reclaim our republic from the throes of our quid pro quo dictatorship of big government bullies on both sides of the aisle.
For far too long we, the American people have allowed ourselves to be divided into subgroups by those having a much bigger agenda financed by extremely wealthy donors. What a fine mess we’re in now as a country….with no clear path out at this point. It will take many years of civil disobedience & elections to chip away at this insanely powerful structure embedded in Washington DC, if not an outright revolution. While I am very encouraged by the ‘new media’ holding the government friendly press & elected officials more accountable than ever, my energy seems to be waning as far too many have become ideologues, so attached to their ‘side’ that they fail to see the writing on the wall – we are doomed unless we can un-transform what has been done by the progressives (both ‘R’s & ‘D’s) over the last century. Power.Corrupts.Period.
As I pen my thoughts, I am struck by the plethora of recent scandals shedding light on just how immense the grip of government intrusion in our everyday lives has become. I am tempted to completely ‘bug out’, chuck my electronics, get my camping gear, my food insurance, my Glock (and ammo) , mount my horse & ride off into the sunset. Then reality sets in & I know there really is no place to ride where I can regain my freedom. What I’ve really been doing is grieving the loss of said freedom since I, like many others willingly agreed to give up some of our freedoms following 9-11, bartering for increased safety. Ironic, isn’t it, but I feel less safe now than the day after 9-11 when there were no planes in the sky & we as a family & a country were bound together tightly grasping the gravity of a completely undefined future.
I had no idea how grave an error in judgment that bartering thing would turn out to be. Misguided by illusion that my government could protect me from further acts of terror, I fully trusted my ‘conservative’ President & other elected officials over the rants of Dr ‘Crazy Pants’, Ron Paul & ‘nutjob’ Dennis Kucinich. Hindsight is always 20-20, but these days I am finding myself in agreement more with these two gentlemen than the elites of either party when it comes to the definition of our government’s role in our republic. Like many others I was itching for a fight with those who removed our façade of freedom & became an avid consumer of politics & news in an effort to further my education in this much neglected subject area. Knowledge & activism would be the key to restoring our republic, or so I thought. Seems ‘some’ loss of freedom has snowballed despite our best efforts.
Joining Tea Party groups gave me purpose & camaraderie following the abomination of our elected President’s ‘War on Freedom’ beginning with numerous stimulus packages which turned out to be welfare for the ‘green energy’ lobby, followed by that signature health care debacle we now all understand to be a complete disaster. Now amidst blatant abuses of power, corruption & scandals I have gone from denial to anger, to bargaining, to depression & am finally entering into acceptance phase of my grieving process. With little energy left in the tank, as I turn to God for guidance, a smile is slowly replacing my furrowed brow as I realize everything happens for a reason & know this is all part of God's plan. I might not like it, but it is what it is! The light bulb has switched on. I am strengthened by my faith and with renewed energy will continue to #fightlikeagirl, persuing freedom, through love, kindness, and truth knowing we must be patient - no matter what- acknowledging freedom may not return in my lifetime. It is not ‘My Will be done’ but ‘Thy Will be done’……
A sense of humor & willingness to ask why someone holds a certain point of view can be very revealing to the extent, sometimes no further comment or debate is necessary, we’ve just chiseled a small dent of doubt in a young liberal’s previously self assured position in their gray matter. The most important step is to ‘engage’ the younger demographic, both those who are already conservative ( to step up their role & realize they CAN make a difference) & those who may think they are liberal, but really don’t have a clue why ( encouraging them to seek further knowledge & factual information on which to base their political views).
