Host A Party

Thank you for being a Smart Girl Party host. Smart Girl Parties are designed for small gatherings of one or two dozen friends and family. The parties are a laid back setting that allow you to interact with your guests and allow an intimate discussion of your topic. We are here to walk you through the process step-by-step. Each month, we will provide our hosts with a new topic and updated resources which will be made available to you on the left hand side of this page.

How do I get started?

It's up to you how your party flows. You know your friends better than we do. Whether you use a soft or hard sell on the topic is for you to determine. There are several ways to make the evening flow smoothly. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
Select a date and time for your party. Weekends are best, but a late week night evening works too.
Put together a tentative agenda for your party.
Will you offer appetizers or just drinks for the evening?
Do you have a friend or someone in your community who is an expert on the topic? Guest speakers are always a great addition.
Send out invitations. You can keep it as simple as an email or use a free service such as FB events or evite.com

Planning your party

Keep it simple. Don't pack too much into the party. You want to give your guests plenty of time to discuss the topic.
Ask opening questions to gauge the knowledge of your guests on the topic.
Ask others opinions and give them time to share any relevant experiences. Caution: Try not to let the conversation spin off course.
Are you showing a video or movie? Many people are visual and showing either can help share additional information.
Make sure to know your materials and don't be afraid to say you don't know an answer. Let your guest know that you will get back to them with an answer. Don't forget to contact us for more information after your party.

What to do after your party

Make sure to follow up with your guests and thank them for attending.
If you plan to host another event, let them know your tentative plans
Fill out the Smart Girl Party feedback form
Write a summary of your event and share pictures. We will share your story in the next SGN magazine.
