Dear Mr. Romney,
While it does appear that you are going to be the Republican nominee to run against Barack H. Obama, bar any miracles from another candidate who dropped or suspended his or her campaign, could you please humor me and read this blog?
I do not have a degree in political science, but then again neither did the Founding Fathers. They relied on something called “common sense” and to which Thomas Paine expanded upon and began to write pamphlets (pre-blogs) about such. So in keeping with the heart and spirit of Thomas Paine, I am going to “blog” to you, Mr. Romney about common sense.
Because you only have four years of political experience as Governor of Massachusetts, which is nothing to sneeze at, in a state that is considered “very Blue” and that you, as a Republican, had to move to “center left” in order to appease your constituents and had to be Pro-Life before changing to Pro-Life; and then introducing “RomneyCare” to your state before opposing “ObamaCare”, and many more examples that will be too long to list here, can I offer an observation to you?
Mitt, can I call you that? I too, am a Native Michigander, (or in my case a Michiganeese, since I am a female) and you were born in Bloomfield Hills, which is just about 4 miles north of me (Royal Oak) and we are both residents of Oakland Country and that your Dad, George Romney, was the Governor of the Great Lakes State and that prior to that was the President and CEO of American Motors and which my very first car was a 1974 AMC Matador, I feel quite qualified to give you a bit of advice.
Rumor has it that you are considering our current Governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder, as a potential running mate for your campaign? I have nothing against Gov. Snyder and of course, I voted for him against the Democrat candidate in 2010. There was such an influx of GOP candidates who, in my humble opinion, were much more conservative than Gov. Snyder, but because they split the conservative vote 3 ways, Mr. Snyder was the winner. Rick Snyder, just like you Mitt, is a very good businessman, very successful and competent as such. He never held public office until now, and so far is doing a very good job cleaning up the mess of the former Governor, Democrat Jennifer Granholm, who once said that if you gave her a second term, in five yearsMichiganwould be “blown away” by the strength and diversity of theMichiganeconomy!
WellMichigan’s economy was “blown away”. The Big Three were in dire straights; two of which were filing bankruptcy and many more suppliers to the Big Three were already bankrupt, liquidated or simply closed. 180,000 citizens of theGreat LakesStateleft to find jobs in greener pastures and many other small businesses closed shop and thousands lost their jobs and got onto the welfare system as there were no jobs to be had. The Mayor of Detroit, bilked the City out of millions and is now living large inDallas, with promises to repay the City, of which we all laugh knowing that his repayment schedule will take 143 years to repay. The State ofMichigan, in a word is, in trouble.
Gov. Snyder, as a businessman, is doing a great job, thus far cutting the waste, consolidating many programs, investigating fraud and abuse and shrinking government to acceptable levels.
But Mitt, Rick Snyder is not a legislator, nor is he a Conservative. The Office of the Vice President controls and oversees the operation of the United States Senate. He is the deciding vote if there is a tie. The Vice President must be well versed in legislative issues and must have the experience to command the Senate, much as a captain takes control of the helm of a ship to guide it safely into port. Such is the job of a Vice President.
Therefore, your choice of VP should be someone who is an experienced legislator and to offset what most ofAmericaviews you as, a Moderate, you need to choose a Conservative. Now while you have not yet made “nice” with Rick Santorum, he NEEDS to be your running mate. He is a former Senator, which of course he has the experience to lead, guess what? The Senate! Plus he is Conservative which would help you with the Tea Party, Evangelicals and Conservatives.
I know you’ve had your issues with him during the Primaries, but that is now over and there is now only one objective . . . defeat Obama!
There are other candidates who could take this position on . . . Marco Rubio, for one who is a current Senator and who could easily take this on, but who is a first term Senator. You must pick a Senator or Representative, not another Governor as they are Executives, not Legislators and you must pick a Conservative.
So in closing, Mitt, please skip our fellow Michigander and pick a good Conservative former Senator from theKeystoneState!
Thank you for your time and God Bless American Girls!
